Sparks in hygienic conveyor rollers? No, thank you!

Profile

What was needed?
Electrostatically dissipative ball bearings

Requirements:
electrostatic conductivity, freedom from lubrication and maintenance, FDA approval

Industry:
packaging technology

Success for the customer:
as xiros plastic ball bearings do not have any complicated sealing concepts, the bearings run continuously and without problems. The xirodur F180 also provides the required electrostatic conductivity.
xiros® plastic ball bearings in hygienic conveyor rollers
Freedom from active lubrication, long service life, hygienic design, suitability for intensive cleaning processes, and anti-static component specifications are indispensable in packaging technology. GEA Food Solutions Germany GmbH invested in our construction kit and equipped its machines with linear bearings, plain bearings, ball bearings and drive elements.

Problem

The problem was the conventional metal ball bearings used in the film guide rollers. They usually caused sparking, which should be avoided in packaging technology. Complicated sealing concepts that use lubricants also make metal ball bearings a food contamination hazard. The search focused on an electrostatically dissipative, lubrication-free alternative that operated smoothly.

Solution

The solution for the film guide rollers was xiros ball bearings made of the xirodur F180 high-performance plastic. These bearings are not only 100% lubrication-free, but also ensure that sparks are obsolete due to the polymer used. The combination of polymer housing and stainless steel balls ensures  maintenance-free operation, and the  FDA approval shows that it is suitable for food packaging.
