Tech up and cost down

Tech up, Cost down with lighter energy chain systems

It is obvious that less moving component weight is good for overall machine performance. Less weight means lighter moving masses, heavier filling and also reduction of the drive power needed, which in turn leads to lower energy costs.

▲Tech up

48% weight saving achieved compared to a comparable steel energy chain

With the YE hybrid chain from igus, a 48% weight saving can be achieved compared to comparable steel energy chains that are available on the market.  Less weight means greater fill weight possible (cable filling) or longer unsupported length. Ideal for telescope work platforms, for example.

▲Tech up

Latest generation of e-chains.
Greater structural stability and 11% less weight

The E4Q series is the latest generation of energy chains from igus. Inspired by nature, pebble-shaped cut-outs have been made in the material in places that are not important for the structural stability and correct functioning of the energy chain. As a result, an 11% weight saving has been achieved while structural stability and the inner height have been increased.

▲Tech up

Achieve a 27% weight saving with e-chains that have almost the same dimensions.

The E4.1 is the most robust and largest e-chain family in the igus product range. It stands out due to its numerous clever design features, the primary aim of which is to ensure a high degree of structural stability and modularity. With the E4.1L (L=lean) family, many of these clever features are adopted but the series is designed to be easier to install and weigh less.

▲Tech up

Achieve a weight saving of up to 30% for robots as well with lighter energy supply systems

triflex R are the igus robot energy chains and are intended for movement along all axes. If the filling of the e-chain allows it, a weight saving of up to 30% can be achieved with the openable TRLF e-chains and this can enhance the dynamic responsiveness of a robot.

▲Tech up

64% less weight and easier to install.

In the case of cobot applications especially, every additional gram is significant.  The new cobot clamps with silicon-free hook and loop tape are considerably lighter than clamps with a metal strap and, thanks to the Velcro®, do not damage the paintwork and are much easier to fit on the cobot.

Extremely high dynamic responsiveness

▲Tech up

Acceleration up to 784m/s²  and speeds of 22m/s

It is not only a low weight but also the simple and robust design and small  manufacturing tolerances of e-chains that allow these enormous rates of acceleration.

In addition, clever design features such as the so-called "undercut design" or "highly flexible connectors" are other factors that underline the suitability of igus energy chains for high speeds and rates of acceleration as in this crash test centre that is shown.

Heavy components lower the payload

The payload plays an important role in many applications with inclined axes or a telescopic function as it may be limited by heavy components. In the case of this telescopic work platform the objective is, for example, to reduce the weight at the basket as far as possible.

Reduce energy consumption by up to 57% with lightweight energy chains and cables

How light but at the same time sturdy must energy chains be designed so that as little energy as possible is consumed and motors as small as possible including drive control, frequency converter and mechanics are adequate? Modern plastic energy chains and chainflex cables make it possible to design and operate machines in an energy-efficient and cost-effective manner.

How do I configure the most cost-effective energy chain
that can be relied on to do its job?

With our online configurators, you only have to complete a few steps to configure the perfect and most cost-effective energy chain that can be relied on to do its job. Calculation of the foreseeable service life of the energy chain and the chainflex cables.

Applications of our customers:

Safe and reliable energy supply in lifting work platforms with readychain®
The European market leader, which produces customised telescopic booms with different working heights, requires flexible energy supply systems for extremely small bend radii and installation spaces as well as low weight.
Linear robots and flat linear robots
Linear robots and flat linear robots play an important role in the handling of components and where machines and processes are interlinked. The wide variety of e-chain types from igus means that there is always one for every application - whether it is suitable in terms of weight, installation space, interior separation or filling.
Wheelchair loading system
Two energy chains from igus together with corresponding cables make an intelligent wheelchair loading system possible. igus e-chains  stand out due to their low weight, structural stability and, above all, their extreme operating quietness.
